Day 50. Sunday 20th September 1970 – India

This morning we managed to drive the bus from where we’d parked up to the base camp without too much difficulty, even passing under the village electrical supply cable, which had been turned off just in case. The rest of the day was spent setting up the camp, digging the latrines and sorting out our gear. During the evening we played football again with the local team and this time, it was a draw. We all came back with one or two bumps and scrapes and spent a rather uncomfortable night; the football pitch was just a wide open cinder patch. Later we found that some of our scratches started to fester, we’d only been in India a few days and already our very well stocked medical chest was getting well used.
The weather was sunny and warm during the mid-day period and cooling down in the evening.
